Title: Linkstation CIFS mount disappearing
Post by: flooreus on January 12, 2017, 03:05:22 AM
Hi,

I have a new Linkstation Pro Quad (LS-QVL) and I have configured a CIFS share on it, which is mounted on my old NAS (not Buffalo). This is so I can rsync everything over to the new from the old. However, I kicked off the rsync, then noticed there was an issue a little later on where rsync had stopped processing due to an I/O error. After investigation it turned out the mount point was 'unavailable' since it couldn't see the CIFS share anymore. I have checked the forums here and found this from 2010:

This is almost the exact same issue I am having, but there is no resolution to it, other than the OP realising he had an IP conflict, which he resolved and it fixed his issue.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I  can do to resolve it? Obviously I can't get in to the Linkstation itself to do any investigation.

Regards,

Flooreus

Has nobody had this same issue with CIFS shares disappearing, or any mount points disappearing? Perhaps the network going offline for no reason? Is there some kind of timeout in place on access? I need this thing to be available 24 hours a day.

OK well I figured it out myself. This NAS has a button on the back for power management, with 'Auto' and 'Manual' on it. I had the switch flicked to auto, which was SHUTTING THE NAS DOWN when it wasn't being used. Awful feature! Now that it's on manual it's up 24/7 thank heavens!
