Title: LINKSTATION PRO WON'T POWER ON
Post by: ceelyd on June 15, 2009, 08:39:42 PM
I received a message from Memeo that data was not being backed up to the Linkstation Pro on my D-Link routed wireless network.  The Linkstation is ethernet connected to the router.  when I checked, I found the LS power light dark.  I tried pressing the power on/off button to no avail.  Changed the power plug to a different surge suppressor, with the same result.  Is there a fuze that I should try to replace?  Pressing the reset function had no effect.  Is it dead?8>(

Is it in on off or auto position for power?  Also what is the model number and firmware version?  If it is not booting up you can try the TFTP boot procedure...

You had questions and a suggestion:

"Is it in on off or auto position for power? "

I don't understand the question.  There is a power on/off button on the front panel.

Also what is the model number and firmware version?"

Model LS-500GL-R Since it won't boot or power on, I can't tell the firmware version.

If it is not booting up you can try the TFTP boot procedure... "

What's that?

In many cases, when there is some form of minimal activity coming from the linkstation, such as a blinking light, but no further progress, the drive can boot up with the assistance of a TFTP program being run on a computer that the drive is directly connected to via ethernet.

However, this pertains to problems where the drive at least puts out some sign of being powered. Since you don't even get that blinking light, I do not see how this can help you.

Many of our linkstations feature a switch mechanism for power rather than a button. Because you did not list any sort of model/firmware, we had to ask. Unfortunately, if the device shows no signs of turning on, even briefly, there isn't much we can do to help the situation.  If you're still under warranty, contact the tech support line for a replacement.

I took the LS off of my router and directly connected via ethernet to the my laptop (WinXP) and powered on successfully, but the device did not respond.  Should I try the TFTP approach now?  If XP home is not locating the device on the ethernet port, how would I address it?

What is the LS doing?  (power light blinking, error lights, does it show up in the NASNAVI?)
