I have 2 identical LS-XHL 1TB units. Firmware was force flashed on both and units initialized.
One unit is live files, the other is for backup only. Setup the backup program, but it fails with the below log:
-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2009/06/15 20:02:48 disk1/MP3/10,000 Maniacs -> LSPRO2@disk1/Backup --------
@ERROR: Unknown module 'disk1_Backup'
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1504) [sender=3.0.3]
-------- END BACKUP 2009/06/15 20:05:00 disk1/MP3/10,000 Maniacs -> LSPRO2@disk1/Backup --------
"backup" is checked on destination share and a password is utilized.
That's really strange. The error message that it gives: "ERROR: Unknown module 'disk1_Backup'" tells me that the destination share hasn't been added to the rsync configuration. This should happen the moment you enable Disk Backup on a share, then apply the changes.
Try this: Create a new share on the destination, call it backuptest. Set it for Read/Write, Recycle Bin Enable, Shared Folder Support: Windows, Apple, Disk Backup, and set a remote backup password. Do not enable access restrictions.
Now on the primary, set up a backup job, call it test. Schedule: immediate, Mode: normal backup. Only check the "Create a backup log file" option. Set the source share, and select the destination as the new backuptest share.
Let me know how that goes.
I'm having the same problem, tried the above and that doesn't work either.
Originally, I had a 1.5TB linkstation and a 1.5TB USB drive to back up to, the backup would complete, log showing everything there and corresponding amount of space used, however when I went into the backup folder on the USB drive it would appear empty even after putting in the correct password.
So I thought i'd try using 2 Linkstations over my network but I'm getting the same error as the first poster has here.
Anyone else got any thoughts or more ideas?
Update the firmware to the latest version, then reset the device to defaults from System->Restore/Format->Restore Linkstation. Try the test setup that I describe in my previous post, and let me know how that goes.
Looks like the 1.21 to 1.24 firmware update has done the trick!
Thanks.
I have another query, when I perform the backup either to USB or to the 2nd linkstation, the log shows everything having been copied, the correct amount of space has been used, but the folder on the backup drive appears to be empty.
In the settings i've got no restrictions on both drives so not sure why I can see the original files but not the copied ones on the backup drive.
I have tried to create a similar setup to that I had previously of using an earlier 320gb linkstation and a USB drive to backup to, but I didn't encounter this problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
Try it with a new folder, with a few simple text files. Let me know how that goes.
I've just tried what you've suggested with a new folder stored elsewhere on the primary drive, when it completed the backup I would get the root folder on the backup drive but with nothing in it, the log confirmed that all the files have been copied.
