Title: I12 error after replacing faulty hard drive in LS-QVL (4 bay) - out of ideas!
Post by: bowdo on June 29, 2016, 06:31:03 AM
I have a 4 bay linkstation running firmware 1.71-Halloween (DTCP-IP:1.65-20130731) in RAID 5 with 4x 3TB Western Digital Reds.

I had a disk failed error (red light) on disk 4 of my array, I ordered a new hard drive and replaced it.  I have had a hard drive fail previously and last time it recognised the disk and rebuilt the RAID automatically.  This time however the red light remained.

First thing I tried was powering off the unit reseating the drive a few times to make sure I had a good connection.

When this didn't work I followed the guide in the following link, where I removed the drive from the raid, formatted, and tried to rebuilld the array  : http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=9345.0

I was able to get all hard drive lights to go green (I can't remember at what stage) however whenever I go to rebuild the array it goes to a progress screen and a few minutes later refreshes to the sharefolder screen (default view) and nothing has occurred.

I tried removing the drive and using diskpart on a windows machine to wipe the drive and start again to no avail:

I am considering rolling the firmware back, and failing that, backing up as much as a can and re-creating the whole array (not looking forward to doing that...)

Is there something I am missing here?  I am fresh out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to have to rebuild the array from scratch.

I'm assuming you have tired to rebuild it using a different browser? FYI: The RAID will never automatically rebuild itself!

Ooh, I actually haven't tried that.  Might give IE a go, have been using firefox.

I must has mis-remembered the last time I had to rebuild, it certainly was forgettably easy the last time.

UPDATE - different browser didn't help

Hi Bowdo

Any luck? I'm having exactly the same issue - I have replaced two HDD's in the past when on Firmware 1.6x but upgraded to 1.71 Halloween to run Plex last week. I am also using 4 x 1TB WD's

Have also tried the same guide. Can get the HDD formatted and into EMM mode but it will not assign to Array1 and rebuild.

If you find a solution please post

Im likely to roll back firmware tomorrow if I cant get a rebuild going tonight

3rd party firmwares aren't supported here, probably best to check where ever you got the firmware.
