Title: LS-WVL/E
Post by: agardk on June 12, 2016, 10:01:15 AM
Hello all,

I have a LS-WVL/E which I have had running now for about a year and a half. This unit had 2 Seagate 2TB drives installed in a RAID 1 config.

I would classify this unit as getting extremely light use as a document/photo storage  device. It's basically a "backup" device which is rarely accessed.

The other day the red LED starting blinking. After logging in to the web interface I found it indicating that Drive 2 had some unspecified error. This seemed a little strange but hey, drives fail. No biggie. So I broke out a brand nee 2TB drive and put that in slot 2.

My expectation was that the RAID would rebuild but nope, still reporting a Drive 2 error.

I have since tested the original drive  thoroughly and all are indications are that it is completely healthy. In fact, I just repartitioned it under Windows and used it to pull all the data off the NAS.

I am still able to access the data off "Drive 1" so nothing was lost but given teh above, I thinking that whatever the problem is, it seems to be the NAS itself rather than any real issues with the drives.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to correct this??

Thanks in advance.

As a follow up, after recovering the data from Drive 1, I powered off the unit and installed to brand new 3TB "NAS Drives" and the same thing occurred so clearly this is a hardware problem.

Guess I'll stick with the D-Links. Have had one of them sitting on my desk for nearly three years as a much more heavily used media server without so much as a burp.

Nope, RTM.

The RAID will not automatically rebuild, you need to tell it to do so on the admin page (System - Storage - Array1 - Rebuild RAID).

Any disk will show as an error until this is done.
