Title: Moving RAID 1 formatted hard drives from LS421DE to LS441DE
Post by: cndesu on April 20, 2016, 08:28:54 AM
Hi,

I have two hard drives which are formatted RAID 1 in LS421DE. I want to move those hard drives to LS441DE. I do not have spare hard drives to copy the data on to hard drive first before moving them. Is it fine by just moving those hard drives AS IT IS into the new enclosure?

You can move the disks, but that will need to be formatted by the unit in order to get them to work with the 441.

Your only option is to backup the data first.

Thanks for you reply.

May be I am asking if the following a solution. Just asking!

I have purchased 4TB hard drive once which was never used.
I will place this drive in the LS441DE and run the software as one drive.
I will copy all the data from the LS421DE to this drive.
I will move the two disks and place them in Bay3 and Bay 4 of the LS441DE.
I will copy the data back into the two drives as RAID 1.

Will this procedure can happen?

I have almost 4TB of data which I do not want to loose.

The only other option I have is to buy another 4TB hard drive which I do not want to. I have three 2TB drives. But to copy data through USB, I do not know how long that will take?????

Thanks
