Title: Linkstation E30 I11 Error (Drive 1 error. Replace the drive immediately!)
Post by: Helipil0t on April 04, 2016, 02:41:51 PM
I have a LinkStation LS-WVL with two Seagate ST2000DM001 hard drives running in RAID1.

So this is the second time I get this error.  The first time I replaced the hard drive without questioning it too much (1.5 years of run time).. This time however (2.9 years) I decided to do some digging.  I11 says "Drive 1 has too many bad sectors.".  So I decided to run badblocks on the affected drive.

root@NetworkStorage:~# badblocks -v /dev/sda
Checking blocks 0 to 1953514583
Checking for bad blocks (read-only test): done
Pass completed, 0 bad blocks found.

I then ran smartctl long test on the affected drive.  The SMART test passes but shows ATA Error Count: 124.

root@NetworkStorage:~# smartctl -d marvell -a /dev/sda
smartctl 5.40 2010-10-16 r3189 [arm-none-linux-gnueabi] (local build)

So my question is basically, what parameters does the Linkstation use to determine when a hard drive is failing?  Is there a list of parameters published somewhere.  And is it possible to get more detailed information from the linkstaiton from a report or something?  The ATA Error count is cause for concern, but otherwise I'm not showing any bad sectors even though the linkstation is claiming there are "too many bad sectors".  And the rest of the SMART test easily passes.  The only thing that was ever below threshold was the airflow_temp.

I have a ST4000VN000 on order which looks to be better suited for 24/7 run-times.  I'm hoping it'll last me longer than 2.9 years.

I'd appreciate any input.
Cheers!

Have you found a solution? I'm having the same issue but haven't found any answers yet.
