Title: Can I use my LH-CHL2.0 as a security cam DVR drive?
Post by: EmKay on March 19, 2016, 07:34:52 PM
I'm not really sure I understand what the USB port on my  LH-CHL2.0 gives me.  I know I could use it to back the  LH-CHL2.0 up to another drive.  Can I use it to WRITE stuff from another device *to* the  LH-CHL2.0?

I have a ton of unused space on my  LH-CHL2.0.  The external drive I had hooked up to my "dog cam" (a Dlink camera with an additional DNR-202L, which allows me to connect a USB drive to it to record camera activity) has died, so I thought, rather than buy another external drive, I'd like to make use of the LH-CHL2.0.

If I find a cable that can connect the 2 (is there such a thing as a male-to-male USB 2.0 cable?  They both seem to have the same USB ports on them), will the LH-CHL2.0 accept data from the DLINK DNR-202L ?

Not possible to write to the USB port in this manner, it can only be used as additional storage for the linkstation, a printer or backing up the unit.

I see that the DNR-202L has an ethernet port. If it will will write to a network share you could use it that way.

Cr*p.  Already ordered a USB cable.  For some reason, I can send still images direct from my camera to the FTP on the NAS, but cannot record from the DVR device via the network.

Thanks for the replies.

This is using the direct copy option, it is not the same as send video from a DVR.
