Title: I have a used TS-RIX12TL/R5.. and need help
Post by: Hotliner on January 11, 2016, 07:32:40 PM
I can't seem to access the device

I've downloaded the BUFFALO NAS Navigator2 and tried to find it... but no go.

the PC has the firewall turned off and the AV is disabled. They TS-RIX12TL is on the same subnet as the PC too.

when I launch the Firmware update utility ... the utility can find the unit and i can scan and see the IP.. just can't configure the device.

The storage unit's LCD display is Red.. ( know it should be blue... correct?)

any help would be appreciated..

Cheers
S

Its an iSCSI unit so the NAS Navigator will never find it, what error is on the LCD?

ok.... well I can work with iSCSI.. thanks for that.

Strangely enough.. the LCD being Red... the text seems to be normal. Have to admit... my eyes aren't what they once were so i will boot it again and see if i can see anything.

is there a utility to connect to this device?

Progress.. I've managed to determine that the drives were faulty.. I've put in two used drives and although it's still in Emerg mode... the fans have slowed and the LCD is blue. The display also stated Disk 1 ready.

Next steps?

If it's in Emergency Mode then reinstall the firmware.

Found this thread..
http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=22801.0

used the edit for the .ini and got farther....
"Partition Not Detected .. the Target will be formatted and all Data Lost" - Continue Updating? - Selected - Yes.
Then I get "Format Failed, Update Aborted"

Thoughts?

Ok... even further progress. I managed to find 4x 300GB matching drives... was able to update the system using the Firmware Updater with the modified .ini.

After the reboot though.. I'm back in Emerg mode.

sigh
EDIT:
rebooted the unit and tried again.. Second times the Charm... completed without errors and rebooted automatically.

Crossing fingers..

EDIT:
worked.. can now see the FW version in the updater.

how can I configure this thing now.. ?
H
EDIT:
Using the iSCSI config utility is the answer... the web interface is either in Japanese or Chinese. need to change it... but it looks like I'm up and running.
Thanks for letting me think this through on the Board..
Cheers
