Title: HD-LCU3 doesn't finsh backup
Post by: herb3845 on January 11, 2016, 03:14:24 PM
I just recently bought a HD-LCU3 4TB external drive for doing backups.
I was able to backup my C: drive successfully, although I noticed it took a good 20 minutes from when the GUI showed 100% complete and when it finally thought it was done.

I am now trying to backup my E: drive. It has about 290GB of data and around 1000000 files. The GUI progress bar once again shows 100% complete. The "Folder:" and "File:" fields are not changing. But it never seems to complete. Looking at the resource meter, BUTray.exe is using 25% of the CPU time. It has been doing this for about 1 hour now. If I click the 'Cancel' button, the software goes and deletes all the files it copied to the backup drive and a couple of hours of time backing up is wasted.

Looking on the HD-LCU3 drive for the backup of the C: drive that was successful, I see there is a "BackupComplete" and "DataBaseComplete" file which I guess gets written when the backup utility finishes. Those files are not there for the backup that is currently stuck.

I also see from the Resource Meter, that the 'System' process is constantly writing anywhere from 90 to 600kb/sec to the Dir01.db file on the external drive even file explorer only shows that the file is 4Kbytes in size!

I forgot to mention my computer is running Windows 10.

Just to follow up on my post...
I "solved" the problem of the buffalo backup software hanging by uninstalling it and downloading one of the many free backup utilities that are available. Everything works great now!
