Title: LS-WVLE08 Not Showing on Network - Red light on Drive
Post by: Marki on January 02, 2016, 04:04:16 PM
Hi
Running a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo 6TB LS-WVLE08 on Windows (was 8 now 10) since March 2013 with very few problems.

Today my laptop failed to connect to the NAS and after a few reboots and even a system restore I actually got off my backside and has a look at the NAS unit itself. It appeared that the power lead has become disconnected so I plugged it back in and after the little blue light on the front had stopped flashing I attempted to reconnect to the drive. Sadly no luck.

I took the front cover off the NAS unit and noticed that the the clear plastic at the base of the left hand drive was glowing red constant - not flashing.
Everything else from network standpoint runs fine - I have another NAS drive which is behaving perfectly.

So - some questions...

- Does the red glow mean that the drive is dead? Is that why the drive does not show up on the network?

The drive is set up on a RAID basis so my data should be safe but how do I retreive it?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Mark

Answering part of my own question but I found this webpage

https://josephlo.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/what-do-the-errorinformation-codes-indicate-ls-wvl-ls-wxl-series/

Which contained this info "Note: When the hard drive is failed, the tab of lower part of the failed hard drive glows red when the front cover is opened"

So one of the drives has failed, so next steps?

I need to replace one drive - where can I get a replacement?

And how do I retrieve the data that is mirrored on the other drive in the unit?

Thanks

Mark
