Title: TS5400 Drive 4 Failed >Replaced Drive 4> Not Rebuilding
Post by: jmyer on December 21, 2015, 02:54:55 PM
I came in this morning to a Red light on drive 4 and an unable to mount array message on the front of my TS5400.

Being that this is the 3rd of 4 drives to fail on a TS5400R8C2, I have gone through the hot swap process several times. In fact, last week Disk 2 went and was replaced "successfully".  Today however, after replacing the failed hard drive and holding in the function button until it beeped, the system did not automatically attempt to rebuild the array.

In retrospect, the difference with all of the other drive swaps was that the shares were accessible with the failed drive. In this case, I could not access the shares with the one drive down.  As it stands currently,  the Raid section of the drives interface is indicating

Array 1 | Raid Mode - Raid5 | Status - Failed

When going in to Array 1, I see disks 1,2 and 3 status as Array1/Normal  and Disk4 as Unformatted.

All of the disks are greyed out at this point and there is no option to rebuild the array.

It seems as though I may have hit a wall with the capabilities of the NAS unit to recover the array. Is there something that I am missing that I need to do to have the NAS put this back into service.

I will appreciate any assistance.

If its showing the RAID status as failed then more than likely you will need to delete/recreate the RAID.
