Title: Please help with Buffalo TS-X4.0TL/R5
Post by: anthony_c on December 17, 2015, 07:14:44 PM
Hi all,

I recently purchased a Buffalo Nas (TS-X4.0TL/R5) which came without ANY of the hard drives. I assumed that I could simply insert new (blank) hard drives and the system would simply, work. I was wrong. I had tried inserting a blank drive or 2 months ago and just ended up putting it on the back burner. I now have a use for the NAS and wanted to try and get it resolved.

Could you guys recommend what I need to do here?

I also have a NAS TERASTATION (2U) unit with all 4 drives... if I need to ghost those drives or something in order to get the smaller unit to work.

I appreciate any feedback/advice you can offer.

Update; I tried taking the drives out of my terastation and put it in the other unit... when I boot the unit it just hangs at Initialize SATA 3 Channel and doesn't do anything else. I thought possibly this would work then I figured each unit may have different firmware or something.

With fours blank disks on the TS-X4.0TL/R5 it should go into EM mode or E06 (depending on what kernal it was using). it will not work with 2 disk for starters.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I had also tried 4 blank disks and it wouldn't boot. I can't remember the exact error but I know it wouldn't boot.

The firmware/etc is stored on the disks or board?

You're saying I should be able to place 4 blank disks in the unit and it'll boot up fine?

Thanks

Eitherway it will not boot with 4 new disks, but I need to know what the error is? EM mode or E06?!
