Title: Folder Mysteriously moved from main drive to TRASHBOX
Post by: kpervine on October 30, 2015, 11:28:34 AM
I have a couple of questions relating to a folder I'll call QBOOK on the Buffalo Box (TS-WVH2-OTL/R1, S/N 9583521100045). The questions come as a result of QBOOK folders and files mysteriously missing from the main drive and ending up in the TRASHBOX. NOTE:  The QBOOK folder was already in TRASHBOX because I had previously deleted folders and files from the main drive. Then a couple of nights ago, everything in the QBOOK folder from the main drive ended up in the TRASHBOX, except a file I was working with at the time of the incident.

Q1 – Is there a way to tell the last time QBOOK in the trash box was modified? If I right-click on the folder, I only get the created date which was well ahead of the date of the incident. I was hoping to get the last modified date so I could tell when the QBOOK folders and files were placed there. I'm not sure if the folder was intentionally deleted from the main drive or not but a modified date would at least let me know when it happened.

Q2 – Copy files in TRASHBOX. There are numerous files in the TRASHBOX that are named: Copy # 1 of real file name.QBW192.168.2.31. The last digit of the IP address differs. Where did these files come from and what is the significance of the IP address?

Having a very similar problem here, which worries me a lot.
I hadn't deleted any files on the NAS, yet a bunch of files in one directory were missing, and found in "trashbox".
On inspection, I see that this has happened in a number of shares.

WHY, and how do I stop that from happening?

The ONLY reason why a file would be moved to the trashbox is if you or someone else or an application that has access to the files deleted them.
