Title: LinkStation Pro Duo powering off randomly
Post by: Johnny T on October 30, 2015, 03:52:20 AM
Hi there,

I wondered if anyone has seen this fault before.

I have a LinkStation Pro Duo 6TB and the other night we were streaming a program from it and the picture froze. I checked the Linkstation and it was powered off but the power switch was still in the middle "ON" position.

I switched the linkstation off and on and it worked for another ten minutes and did the same.

I've noticed that the network light flashes red 3 or 4 times as well when it's booting up. I'm not sure if that's relevant?

Has anyone any idea what the problem could be?

Could it be the power supply or is there a fault with the drive?

Is there anything I can do at my end to help diagnose the issue?

Many thanks for all your help

John :-)

After reading some more of the forum I'm wondering if this is a firmware problem.

Apparently firmware 1.81 has an issue.

I found the info in these threads (in case it helps someone else)

I'll try rolling back the firmware and then post back as to whether that fixes it for me.

Considering you cannot install 1.81 onto this unit how have you some to the assumption that a firmware for a completely different device can cause this problem with your unit?

Excellent point davo.

I posted the original question this morning whilst at work. After a bit of trawling I thought I'd found a solution and didn't want people wasting their precious time on my question if a firmware roll back was the answer. Hence the second post.

I'm now at home and sat in front of my Linkstation Pro Duo which is LS-WVL series.

The blue power light is on. And the info/error light is blinking a code which, according to this great resource (https://josephlo.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/what-do-the-errorinformation-codes-indicate-ls-wvl-ls-wxl-series/ (https://josephlo.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/what-do-the-errorinformation-codes-indicate-ls-wvl-ls-wxl-series/)) appears to mean it's checking its hard drive.

I did do a firmware update on this box a few weeks ago and hence I thought this could be the issue.

When the blinking stops (any idea how long a hard drive check takes?) then I'll check the firmware verison and maybe try a roll back (unless there is better advice forthcoming?)

Thanks again for all the help and apologies for my "half cocked" reply earlier. As I said, it was written with the best of intentions.

Cheers

John :-)

Id say more than likely you have an diagnosed disk failure. Log onto the unit, press cntl+alt+shift+b and save the file PM me the log and i'll have a look.

Hi davo

Yep, I think you could be right mate.

Looking at another code list it looks like E30 which is hard drive failure.

I got logged in to the linkstation and it's only showing one of my drives.

It's just restarting and then I'll PM you the log as you asked.

Thanks again for your assistance

Cheers

Hi davo

I've saved the log, it's a zip file with lots of files inside it. Which one(s) do you want?

The PM system won't let me attach a file but I'll be able to copy/paste contents into it.

Cheers
