Hello all
New to the forums so appreciate any help I can get.  I have an Iscsi ts-rix4.0tl/r5 that has worked well for 7 years.  Its running off a small DELL server using Small Business 2008.  I have a small Network with a Netgear NAS also on it but just bought a Buffalo Tera 5400dn WSS NAS. I would like to shelve the Dell server and Small Business and use the 5400 to be my main server/storage.  Would the ts-rix4.0tl/r5 run off the 5400? Yes No or is there a way to make it work. Like I said I would like to lose the Dell Server

That should work fine. Just disconnect the Dell from the iSCSI volume(s) and connect the 5400 with the Windows iSCSI initiator. You may have to bring the volume online in Windows disk manager but the data should be intact.

The Scsi initiator is within the 5400? I am not an expert with this :) Also the R5 has photos on it, it doesn't, or will not be reformatted right?  Thanks for your help. The 5400 just got delivered today!

The WSS 400 runs Windows Storage Server. The iSCSI initiator is built into Windows. Here, this should help:

Now another question after just receiving the 5400DN 8tb

The storage space is only showing 5.16tb when I supposedly have 8tb. I know some is used but 2.84tb? They must have sent me the wrong one.

Take a look at Windows disk management. It should 4 2TB drives. Due to the way Windows counts bytes, they will show as ~1.8 TB each. There will be an OS partition of 100 GB mirrored on the first two drives and a RAID 5 volume spanning all 4 drives. Due the OS partition, the RAID 5 will occupy ~ 1.7TB on each drive. RAID 5 uses an amount of space equivalent to one drive for parity, so that gives you 1.7 * 3 as the data volume, ~5.1 TB.

Ahhhhhhh......That's why you are the expert and we are photographers, I am in the know sort of, but I havnt touched our system in a few years and my brain cells are slow...:)
