Title: LS220DE backup sometimes fails
Post by: pxweb on September 09, 2015, 04:50:18 AM
Hi,

I've installed an LS220DE with 2 x 1TB drives and an external 1TB usb drive with its own power supply.

The installation worked well and the initially backup was successfully.

I've set a backup schedule everyday and this was working fine then it started reporting a backup failure.

To confirm we used to unmount the external usb drive at the end of the day for security reasons and then reconnect the next day.
However there were some days when we didn't reconnect so we suspected this may be causing the backup failure.

I checked the status and logs and it indicated the backup had failed.

I checked the external drive and all was fine so I manually started a backup and this was successful

I set the backup schedule for daily and decided NOT to unmount the external usb drive just to check if unmounting the usb drive was causing the problem and for a few days the backup worked fine and then it failed again.

Anyone got any ideas or experienced the same problem?

Regards

Further update if this helps.

I found that the external backup was failing because there was a timing conflict and the external backup was scheduled at the same time as the office computers.

However having fixed this I'm still having problems with the external backup failing when the external drive is unmounted and then not allowing further scheduled backups when the external drive is re-connected.

To confirm the external drive is unmounted and disconnected at the end of each working day and then reconnected the next working day.
The external backup is scheduled to complete at 10:00 each day.
If the external drive is connected the backup works fine.
However if the external drive is not connected then I receive an email stating the external backup has failed.
This would be expected because the drive is disconnected.
However when I connect the external drive it will not complete a scheduled backup until I have cleared the logs which seems to defeat the object.

Any ideas how I can resolve this without having to clear the logs?
