Hello, I have a two to three year old LS-CHL100 with firmware version 1.58 at my home office in Coppell, Texas.
I have been using this a both a shared drive for my wife's PC and an Apple TimeMachine backup for both an old Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro. Everything was working fine till recently. The old Mac Pro have been replaced and I'm no longer using the LS-CHL100 for back up of it. However, there old TimeMachine file was quite large - 780 gigs - and proved impossible to erase. I decided to just reformat the LS-CHL100 using the web portal access from the NASNavigator software and Firefox. All appeared well, except instead of a simple format, the system seems to want to write 0s across the entire drive. OK, that will take longer but fine. This process started on Tuesday, July 28 at about 3pm. Yesterday morning, Thursday, July 30, I checked yet again and now the message no longer had any progress information, just -
Checking/Formatting Disk...
All features are disabled until the disk is completely checked/formatted. Also, file sharing is not available.

Progress: Progress
and the rest of the screen is blank except for a spinning progress symbol.
This morning, Friday, July 31, I look an now there is a slow blinking red light on the LS-CHL100. I reboot, get the flashing amber light again and still the "Checking/formatting" message. How long is this supposed to take? Is the drive simply dead? What do you suggest I do?
Thanks in advance!

If you did the "reset to factory/format the unit" option it could take a while. It writes zeroes across all drives, then it writes ones across all drives, then it repeats the process. There is no way to interrupt this process, I'm afraid you'll just have to wait it out.
I didn't intend to do that, but I picked the only format option I could find. If four or more days is normal, then I'm fine. I just wondered if I was waiting for something that was not likely to happen.
Thanks for the quick answer!
I did the "reset to factory/format the unit" option by accident on or about July 27. It's now August 10 and the Linkstation is STILL telling me it's formating. All controls or option on the web control page appear to be locked out. NASNavigator can still connect to it, but I get a gold circle with a question mark and message about updating the firmware. Is it likely the the reset killed the unit? Is it normal to take over two weeks to complete a format of a 1T drive?
