Title: LS-QL/R5 drive swap
Post by: szimbler on June 03, 2015, 04:24:33 AM
I've been searching on this forum for 1/2 hour. I'm looking for simple instructions on how to replace a drive on my LS-QL/R5 4TB Linkstation Quad, NAS NAv is telling me there are too many bad sectors on disk 2. I have a new drive ready, but can't find simple instructions on the replacement.

It might well be: "power down - swap faulty drive - power up" but I don't want to screw up my current RAID 5 by making a school-boy error.

Thanks for helping.

I'm hoping that's all it is.  I've had this thing so long I no longer have any documentation for it and am not finding anything on Buffalo's site.

The only way to do this is to backup the data, delete the array, replace 3 of the drives, create a 3 drive RAID 5 (to put the OS on it), yank the last drive, replace it, break the array, create a 4 drive RAID 5, restore data from backup.

Not an easy task, and not supported. These were some of the first home NAS ever made and didn't have a simple way to reinstall.
