Title: Linkstation LS-WSXL/R1 E13 RAID-1 problem
Post by: simonsunnyboy on May 24, 2015, 03:31:38 AM
Hello,

my Linkstation is reporting a E13 error for my RAID-1 array with the original disks. Degrade mode is running and I can still access my data. One of the disks seems to be at fault while the other is still working.

a) Is it save to try rebuilding the RAID array without fearing dataloss? E.q. can I try this without backuping all data first to revive the faulty drive?
b) After backupping my data somewhere else, is there a chance to reinitialize the harddisks completely and get back to a running state?
c) Does this mean the harddisk is completely at fault?

My shipping box states LS-WSX1.0TL/R1, manufactured Jan. 2011.

Regards,
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

This sounds very similar to the problem I had last week. I ended up replacing the drive after trying to rebuild the array.

a) Yes but it would still be best to back it up elsewhere. I ran the rebuild as the first attempt and lost nothing.
b) Yes by deleting the array, reformatting the disks and starting again. Alternatively you can return the device to factory defaults by pressing and holding the function button when switching on (this information is in the manual).
c) No but it is the most likely reason. Another could be the controller on the board.

If you can, remove the drive that's being reported as faulty, put it in a USB caddy & delete all of the partitions.

Have a read of my thread which will give you information about what happens & when. It's a bit long and boring but hopefully contains useful information. http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=22933.0
