Title: SMB 3 and windows 2012 backup issues
Post by: jacrawley@carepartners.or on May 22, 2015, 10:20:30 AM
I have a TS3400RC0E running firmware 1.20-011. I am attempting to back up a windows 2012 hyper-v using the windows backup utility. The back up fails with the following error
Detailed error: The mounted backup volume is inaccessible. Please retry the operation.
Event viewer gives the following error code
0x807800C5

Research into this error code reveals that NAS boxes using samba/linux that do not support SMB 3 will fail in this manner. Looking through the terrastation configs it appears that it only suports SMB 2. How can I make this work?

thanks

You might try this:

I looked at the link and was very confused. Do you think disabling WnnRE(whatever that is) will allow me to use windows backup to  write to the NAS device or are you suggesting this as alternative to backup the machine? Is it note the case that the latest release of samba supports SMB3 is there a plan to upgrade to that?

Compare the version of Reagent.dll on your system to the versions listed in the article.

I am not running R2 so this article does not apply to my problem. Just for fun I disabled winre and tried again with the same result.

It appears that turning on iscsi and using the NAS this way is a work around. Hope this helps someone else. But this means you can not use the same space as an SMB share which sucks.

If you turn on LVM you can create an iSCSI volume and an SMB share. Or you can create an SMB share on the Windows box that's attaching to the iSCSI volume.
