Title: LinkStation LS420D bricked after firmware update 1.80
Post by: tom2001 on April 29, 2015, 07:24:32 PM
After a firmware update via the web, the NAS (LS420D) stops working. I also try to reset to the factory settings without any change. The only thing I can do is after connecting the NAS directly to my computer, I am able to ping the default address (192.168.11.150) only if the switch of the unit is OFF. I'm unable to turn off the unit with this switch. Also, the error code (Red Led) is 07 (7 blinks).
According to Buffalo technical support, my firmware is corrupted. Just before the update 1.80, my unit works perfectly!!!

I have found a procedure on the net based on TFTP server, but I'm not able to find anywhere a LS420D boot image. The Buffalo technical support doesn't want to send it to me.

Is it possible to reinstall the firmware from scratch?
Am I the only one with this issue?
Could someone help me?

Thank you for your answer!

Technically there is no TFTP update, BuffaloTech also cannot provide you it because they didn't make it and so they  dont keep copies of this. You can try the setups for the LS421DE and see if that works Or see if anyone can post a image for your or the files needed to make a TFTP. You can make one but Im not sure if it will work. Newer units can be effy

Here is the setup guide http://manual.buffalo.jp/buf-doc/35020072-02.pdf

If not Message "Davo", he might beable to help with a image.

I have the TFTP boot files required to unbrick the LS400 series.  I have successfully used them to unbrick a LS420D.  Feel free to contact me if you need the files or help.

There is also a new firmware, 1.81 but I don't think it solved this problem, the problem was also in the previous firmware. The best is to go back to the original firmware 1.34.
But I don't understand why Buffalo so not correct this problem, as I see many people have it...
