Title: Recovery Software for RAID 5 in Terastation live
Post by: miogpsrocks on April 28, 2015, 03:18:28 PM
What software is normally used to read the data from the Hard drives in a RAID 5 environment on a Terastation live.

Originally I had called Buffalo and they told me if there was ever a hardware issue, the data could easily be read using a particular Linux software/tool that could piece together the RAID 5 information from the drives as long as I had them labeled. Does anyone remember what software or tool that originally was?

A little background, I received an MCP communication error on my Terastation E00 I think however I was able to reset and get it to boot up without the error.

In the event that I am unable to copy all the data off the drive before the system crashes from this flaky processor, I would like to know that there is an option to read these drives.

Referring people to a data recovery specialist laboratory is like going to to the Emergency Room for a haircut. This is suppose to be when the drives physically broken and trying to recovery data from the internal plates not when the drives are perfectly fine and your RAID system breaks.

In any event, I am just looking for that RAID 5 software tool.

Thank you.

You are the only one I have found in 2 weeks that could help.

I don't know what is wrong with those Buffalo support people. They use to be helpful( which is why I originally felt comfortable with the product) however recently they are acting crazy.

They said that if the unit breaks(but the hard drives are perfectly fine) that your only recover option is to bring it to one of these data recover places which can cost $5,000. These places are usually when a hard drive breaks and they try to recover data from the insides in a clean room and like containment suits.

IF the firmware could not be read, they use to tell you how you can reflash the firmware however now they just tell you to bring it to a data recovery place.

I have informed my company to never purchase another Buffalo product after the way they their tech support starting giving customers the middle finger.

I don't know if they are now outsourcing their tech support to a 3rd party company(because they refused to answer the question I asked it about 10 different times) or if something happen because they no longer offer any tech support behind telling people to go to a 3rd party data recovery site at $5,000 for a 4 drive recovery.

In any event. THANK YOU for telling me about that software. That is exactly what I was looking for!!!

You should get an award for that!  Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar.
