Title: LS-WX4.0TL/R1 6x blinking red
Post by: rcmcdee on April 23, 2015, 06:22:37 AM
I bought this device less than 2 years ago and it has performed perfectly until tonight. I backed up my wife's laptop yesterday and wen looking for some files from an earlier backup tonight. I could not find the device and when I looked at it all lights were off. It is powered through a UPS and no errors were noted by that device.

I put the LinkStation on my bench and switched it on and got the blinking red 6.

I have the above error and the device does not show up in NASNavigator2. I had it configured for Raid 0. I would dearly love to not lose the data on the drives. Any ideas?

You need to TFTP the unit to get it working again, this will erase the data on the device.

Is there perhaps another Buffalo device I could purchase - with or without drives - that would allow me to put my drives in and read the array data? I can probably even find the same model if need be.

if you put drives to another unit they will be formatted.

Eh, putting the drives in another unit won't really format them unless you tell it to or something or you buy the newer units but even then you have to press the Init button to begin the formatting, but I wouldn't do that. Chances of you getting the unit to boot with drives on a different firmware isnt to high but is possible. Just depends. If you buy the same exact model it will load the drives but E06 means you have to TFTP the unit to most likely fix it.

You can get lucky and try powering off the unit, remove disk 1 and boot up see if you get the same error, if so power off the unit, put disk 1 back and remove disk 2, (DO NOT GET THE DRIVES MIXED, DISK 1 to BAY 1 and DISK 2 to BAY 2, VERY IMPORTANT), If it boots up then that means disk 2 is bad, this applies as well if it booted up right the first time but that would mean disk 1 is bad. Somethings is a drive that causes this but not always.

Thanks everyone - I bought a new LS441DE and loaded the drives into it. Definitely one of the drives was dead so data loss. Not worth the crazy recovery charges but frustrating none the less. No more RAID 0 for me.
Happy for the 4 drive setup but VERY unhappy to lose the SqueezeBox server. Any thoughts as to how to load that?

Honesly, I use Plex. I dont like using the Nas for a media server. Use it for hosting data. I dont have this unit so I dont know how to use the media server or which one comes with it. Hopefully some gives you better information then I did.
