Title: Error light on my LS-320GL LinkStation....
Post by: somethingsacred on June 02, 2009, 05:08:59 PM

Can anyone help me. I have an LS-320GL storage unit and I went to turn it on and the 'error' light came on. It seems to blink 6 times then pause, then 1 more blink......then it starts over. Does anyone know what that means......also, how would I get the files off it........?

thank you,

Jon

are any of these blinks longer than the others?  Also do any of the drive lights show an error?

If it's still within warranty (1 year) you can set up a replacement with tech support:

E16 - unable to locate internal HDD

You can use a software program called UFS Explorer.  I believe it costs about 50$ for the liscense.  You can also try hooking the drives up to a linux computer, but this is assuming that the drive is still working

So that would be it......any other options. Sorry, but what's a "linux" computer?

Those are the options.  Linux is an open source operating system that uses XFS file system (like your linkstation).

ok, thanks so much......are there any other data recovery programs you'd recommend?

UFS Explorer specializes in RAID recovery.  It is the one that we generally suggest to all users because of its high level of reported success.

I could also suggest some data recovery specialists if you'd like, but that can be expensive

One way I would have done it is to remove the internal harddisk and plug in to my linux system.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BUFFALO UNIT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BEFORE YOU PROCEED!

The drive will mount and I would be able to see the share folders in one partitions.

Go into the partition and see if data have appear.
