I just popped in two new 2TB WD HDD in my Buffalo LS-WVL. At first, I saw the quick blinking blue LED, which after a few minutes stopped and the bottom error light started flashing instead. As I pressed the function button, the blue LED started flashing again and has done so for the last 2 hours. Is the NSA formatting the HDDs or what is possibly going on?
I think it could be creating the raid drive of the two HDD's.. IF you did a factory reset (as I have just done...)
the factory reset is done by holding the function button in while switching on the power, then pressing it again after the blue LED flashes and then after a few mins the orange LED shows and it means the reset is going on.. eventually after quite a while, the unit appears on the network and you can open the web interface and see "inside" the unit.
hope this helps..
cheers

You cannot put new drives in the unit like this, You need to get the old drives, Make sure the unit boots up (Hopefully you did not format the old drives), once the unit was able to boot up, replace disk 2 with one of the new disk, boot up linkstation go to hdd tab, format the new disk, make sure you can see it and it is working, power down, replace disk 1 with a new disk, go to hdd tab, format the new disk, make sure you can see it and it is working. Create your array and you are all set
Doobre, thank you for trying to help me. I tried what you suggested but because I don't really know what I'm doing here, I'm sure I did something wrong, as it didn't get me where I wanted to be. Don't know where I slipped up.
Thank you, Joma! What you suggested I was able to do! It worked great for me!
Last question. Right now it says it's checking the Array. Is there a progress indicator of sorts that I can see, or do I have to settle for the view I have under system/storage/Raid Array, where it says "Checking"?
Whops! Never mind that last question. I didn't see the diagonal scroll button in the bottom of the panel... I can obviously scroll over to my right, and in the far right column, it tells me... Sometime I just don't see further than my nose.
Thank you for all your help. Would not have been able to do this without you.
