I am having trouble backing up using Nova on my Terra Station. I can do a file copy backup without problems. When I do the Nova Backup I get the fffffffe failure. Nova support says this is either a full destination (it is not) or I am losing connection with the Terra Station during the backup. The failure usually occurs 4 - 10 minutes into the backup. It does not fail on the same file each time.
I was able to do these backups prior. The only change is that I changed the laptop (backup source) to an SSD. I am using Windows 8.1.
I do notice that if I leave computer for a period of time, sometimes the Terra Station will not show up on the Network in File Explorer. It is available in those instances accessing by ip address through the browser. This has occurred both before and since the SSD installation.
Any ideas what is going on?
What is the model and FW version of your TeraStation?
Model Number: TS-WX2.0TLR1
Firmware: 1.55
I would recommend trying a firmware update first. The latest FW version is 1.65. Here are the links:
For Windows based updater: http://buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/download/tsx165.zip (http://buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/download/tsx165.zip)
For Mac based updater: http://buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/download/tsx_series-165_fwmac.dmg.zip (http://buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/download/tsx_series-165_fwmac.dmg.zip)
This firmware update did not resolve the problem. It appears to me that my pc is losing the network connection with the NAS. The NAS does not show up in File Explorer except rarely. After sitting idle, NAS Navigator can't find the NAS. I can however connect to it using the web browser and the ip address.
If I restart the computer, then NAS Navigator can find the NAS. At that point, if I start a backup it will run, but only for a bit as it fails giving me an error that indicates a lost connection.
Any help appreciated. If I can't get this to work, it is useless.
It's interesting to me that rebooting the computer allows you to access the NAS. That makes me suspect that something is going on in the Windows network subsystem that's causing a problem. Have you tried disabling the Windows firewall to see if that makes a difference?
