Title: LinkStation Pro Duo LS-WTGL/R1 - Permissions Problem
Post by: Benchmark1868 on June 02, 2009, 07:30:36 AM

FW 3.09

Shared on a small office network node VPN

I have 3 PC's at this location 2 XP Pro and 1 Vista Office

I have no security on my shares and have had all 3 machines mapped, starting yesterday with no changes, the Vista machine won't access the drive

I can see the drive through NAS navigator, I can log onto the drive from the Vista Machine, but I cannot access it.

I get the message " Unable to access drive. You may not have permission to access, contact administrator......"

"The user name could not be found"

The computer logs into a Primary Domain controller through the VPN and the username is "appraiser", I have added this username to the LinkStation, with no change in results.

It worked on Sunday and not on monday, only the vista machine is affected, I did install the Vista patch and rebooted, to no avail.

Again, I do not have any security enabled on the LinkStation and no changes were made to the LinkStation configuration between Sunday and Monday.

Now you may have already tried this but I'll say it anyway. The most likely cause for that is if you mapped the share by name. When you do that it is more likely to drop connection then if you do it by IP adderss. I have seen this issue happen noumerous times mapping by name. Try doing it by IP address instead and see if that helps, it should.
