Title: Adding used storage to NAS
Post by: lang2 on January 26, 2015, 08:29:14 AM
I have a low end Buffalo NAS (lswvl is the model). Currently I had one disk in slot 2 which was installed long time ago and it was a fresh drive and fresh install - meaning I (probably) formatted within the NAS. I just recovered another HD from an old USB external disk. The disk was formatted already as ext3 and has tons of stuff on it already. So I naturally pushed it in to slot 1 of the NAS and hope it'd magically work without fuss. Not so. After logging into the web interface, I do see disk1 as present but the status is "Removed" and the only option on it is to "Format". Is there a way I can use it as NAS and keep the stuff on it?

Nope, main disk are xfs format and even then it probably wont read it. needs to be formatted with the Linkstation so it can create its 5 partitions on the drive. You will have to get an external dock or usb to sata and get the data off that way
