Title: Terastation Live Disc LED's flashing and disc access noise all the time, non stop
Post by: Ozzie on May 27, 2009, 01:15:39 PM

Hello all,

I have a Terastation Live HS-DH2.0TG1/R5 which is configured for RAID5. It is 78% full with mostly large files like movies, music and pictures. The last few weeks I have noticed that the disc LED's are constantly flashing at the same time, all on - all off, fairly rapidly. This seems to have started about 2-3 weeks ago after I added a couple of movies and deleted a couple of other movies. Usually after making any changes to the files the LED's will flash randomly or in sync for a day or so. But this time it has been non-stop for weeks. I have shut it down twice, once for an hour or so but the activity continues.

Accessing files seems slower, and playing movies on the LinkTheater (LT-H90LAN) seem slower and sometimes will stall or skip, but most of the time it plays ok, just access is slower.

This morning I dis-abled pcast but no change in the LED's or access noise from the harddrives.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Need to know a few things in order to help you. First off what color are the lights. And secondly are there any slight pauses in the flashes.

4 Green LED's.

No, I can't say I have seen any slight pauses. The flashing and the hd noise seem to stay pretty consistent.

It seems to have something to do with the media server's automatic updates.  Try reflashing the database from Pcast section of the database.

I re-freshed then flashed the database this morning. The 4 green disc LED's are not flashing as much and randomly only 3 LED's will flash at the same rate leaving a random LED off. When 1 of the disc LED's is off you can hear the hd access noise. I will check it again tonight and in the morning.

Can I ask what it is doing and why is the access so often when pcast is enabled?

Thanks,

The media server indexes the media on the drive for its database. When automatic update is enabled, it will index the media fairly constantly

Hi,

Is there any message in the web console page saying something abt "Resyncing raid array?

These happens only when the terastation is resyncing raid array or you may have to disable a function in the PCast page.
