Title: Transferring drives from one TSH10TGLR5 to another to recover data
Post by: vanillaice on May 26, 2009, 04:54:36 AM

Hi,

My TS Pro II is failing to boot with E02 DRAM errors.

I have access to another TS Pro. Can I simply put my drives in the other TS Pro II (disk 1 to disk 1, disk 2 to disk 2, etc.) and everything will become accessable? I will flash the working TS Pro II with the same F/W version. Will the second TS automatically detect the shared folders I have created, or do I have to create the folders again before the data is accessible?

If this is not possible, what other options do I have for getting my data off?

Cheers,

ICE

As long as the units are the exact same model (drive size doesn't matter), then you can swap the drives. You will probably have to flash the FW onto the working unit once the drives have been swapped. But then, it will act as the other one did.

Other options would include plugging the drive into a Linux machine (or something else that can read XFS filesystems in a RAID structure)

Hi kevin, thanks for the reply.

Sounds promising. The units are the exact same model number. My unit was firmware version 1.33, so will put the borrowed Terastation on the same firmware as well. Just to confirm, you think flash to the same firmware after I have installed my drives?

Fingers crossed.

You shouldn't even need to update the firmware, much of the firmware is stored on the disks themselves.  If you do need to then it shouldn't matter which firmware you update it with.  Might as well go with the most recent.

You are correct, (if needed) you want to install FW after replacing the drives so that both the unit and drives have the same.

I believe 1.33 is the latest!

Aaaargh!

Have just found out that the other TS Pro I have access to is a TS-H2.0TGL/R5, whereas I have a TS-H1.0TGL/R5.

Is this going to cause me any problems? I am hoping the only difference between the units is the size of the drives and everything will be ok??

Many thanks,

ICE

The only difference is the size, and it shouldn't matter!
