Hi,
My linkstation hs-dh500gl seems to turn itself off regularly at random times. It can turn itself off after ten minutes or a couple of hours but it doesn't seem to want to stay turned on.
Everything seems to be working fine with it but for this.
I have been into the nas manager and looked at all the settings but I cant seem to find anything relating to this.
I did wonder if it was some form of overheat protection but I can turn it on after being off for days and after ten minutes it switches itself off. Although like I mentioned, other times it can go for hours.
I am running firmware version: HS-DHGL_211_101b
PC is running windows vista ultimate 32bit
Cheers in advance for any light you are able to shed on this problem.
Are there any error or info lights flashing or any beeping?
Do you know what Firmware version you are running?
I would try to update Firmware.
Overheating is critical which means it will shut down the unit, but it should give some error message if that was the case.
Hi Kevin, Thanks for the reply. Here are the details you requested:
There are no error beeps or lights flashing, it just goes from being turned on and connected to turned off with no error messages etc.
Firmware version is 2.11
and the model number is HS-DH500GL
The trouble with updating the firmware is that I couldn't find the accurate file to download through the resource centre, it was only when I clicked a direct link to a firmware in another post that I actually got hold of the correct firmware for this model.
Like I said, the model number is HS-DH500GL but on the front of the nas at the bottom it says gigabit linkstation, but apparently these are not the actual names of this machine as when I tried downloading a firmware for the gigabit linkstation it would not recognise it.
Hence my difficulty in finding an updated firmware to try... indeed, if an update is available.
2.11 is the latest. First check the little switch on the back. Is it on Auto? Move it too "on"
Even if it appears to be "ON" make sure the switch is not somewhere between.
How is that?
From my experience it is either a power issue of the unit is over heating fyi disputator there is no "auto" switch on that model.
Try changing the power cable and move it to a well ventilated location, failing that boot it into EM mode and force the firmware
Hi Disputator and Davo,
Thanks for the replies and suggestions, appreciate the time out to reply to me on this.
As Davo said there is no on / off switch but I have moved my hdd's around and created more space around them and have some cool air running between them all and everything seems fine.
It does point to it being an overheat issue but there was never any warnings or beeps etc, but it seems ok now so thanks guys and hopefully its all resolved.
Cheers
