Title: Buffalo 1TB DriveStation external USB 2.0 hard drive inaccessible
Post by: dam041272 on May 13, 2009, 05:25:45 PM

Hi guys..seen this problem all over the internet, including in this forum but can't seem to find a solution. My external hard drive shows in device manager as a buffalo hard drive. it says its working properly, up to date etc..if i click safely remove hardware, it shows as a USB Mass Storage Device. It shows in computer management as a drive...when i try to initialize, it says cyclic redundancy error...it doesn't show in My Computer..therefore I cannot access it...so I seem to have lost all my pics, music, vids and docs. I've tried a software retrieval program but it doesnt find the hard drive. Please help me as I'm now tearing out what little hair i have left on my head. Running Vista by the way..and i've plugged it into another pc running XP..to no avail. Thanks in advance

ALL READERS:

First thing you ALWAYS want to include is the MODEL of the product you are asking  questions about...It simply makes everything eaiser for everyone!! :smileywink:

Anyway...

It seems like the drive has failed since it's asking you to initialize it.

Press and hold the "Windows" key on your key boardand press the letter "R", this will bring up a Run screen. In there type in "diskmgmt.msc" and this will open a Disk managment window. The drive should show up as Disk1 or Disk2 and so on.

What info does it say about this drive, and what options do you get when you right-click on it?

Hi, thanks for the reply, i've edited the subject..it now states the model of my hard drive. I did the disk management thing...it shows Disk 1 ...unknown..not initialized...and as i said, i can't initialize it.

Hi,

I also have the exact same issue.  My drive is a Buffalo 1TB BUF-HD-CE10TU2(B).  My drive was working fine yesterday morning, however, my computer stalled will transferring files between the external drive and my HDD and I forced the computer to reboot after waiting 2 days.  I cannot initialise it in Disk Management and have tried DISKPART - to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.
