Title: TeraStation Login Problem
Post by: Teranator on May 13, 2009, 02:36:23 PM

Howdy All

I have a TeraStation [TS-1.0TGL/R5] that is not letting me log in .....

Firmware - 1.04 Workstation - Tried both Win2k & WinXP

The long and sad tale

I purchased a used TeraStation - cheap - it had the dreaded E22 Error (Cant mount HDx).

Fixed that by swapping the drives from my other TeraStation and formatting these drives one by one on a PC and putting them into the

TeraStation I pulled the drives from - both work fine but.......

The newly purchased TeraStation boots up ok - no drive errors now but it shows "HD Used 1-2-3-4" and "HD 1-2-3-4 Spanning" and the IP address shows "192.168.0.21 F"....no problem right ?

I flashed the firmware to the lastest 1.04 version - changed the IP to match my LAN - 192.168.0.21 and there I cant get any further.

I can ping the IP with the TeraStation connected to my switch or directly to a PC..... but I cannot get the GUI to work....it cant find this TeraStation. (but it does see the other one just fine)

I have considered using the TFTP method described elsewhere but that doesnt seem to match my problem.

I have tried setting the TeraStation to the default IP and all but that also doesnt get me anywhere.........

So anyone have any ideas I can try so I can log into this box ?

I have a similar problem with my TS.  I'm noticing there are a lot of these showing up on the boards but there are no replies being offered.  I hope it's not a firmware/OS issue that is cropping up.

I believe this is a problem with the OS that loads from the drives.  I have 2 units (one that works, one that doesn't).  I'm going to try a few things to get this problem resolved but without Buffalo's help it will be dicey at best.  Since the units in question are older they are no longer offering any kind of support.

I'll respond here if I find anything else.

Well still no solution to this problem - worked with it for about all I can stand........might be time to cut my losses and remove the drives and junk

the box.

Well it seems like a network issue, you were able to access the unit until you changed the IP to a static one?

If the unit is booting fine with no errors and you can ping it, it should be fine. Turn off ALL firewalls (windows along with antivirus)! Plug the TS directly into your comp and set an IP on your comp to 192.168.11.155 and press and the INIT button on the back of the TS for 15 seconds. Run the Navigator and see if that can find it. Does it give you a Firmware version?

Have you tried Force Updating the Firmware?

I have never been able to log into this particular box.......the drives are from another TS that was working fine - the original error was fixed [E22].

I had this on a PC with no antivirus or firewall software even installed and I plugged it directly into the nic on that box.

Init doesnt seem to give me much help....

But the kicker is - it pings - NAS Navigator 2.15 sees it - firmware v 1.04

IP 192.168.0.21.....gateway- MAC address

PC is 192.168.0.3 TS is 192.168.0.21 .......

Forcing a firware update fails:

TeraStation cant respond

Confirm whether TeraStation and this computer are belong same
network segment. If this computers firewall feature is enabled
please disable it

Firmware update is canceled

Same message I got when I tried it with a PC with no internet connection - no AV or no firewall.

Follow Up

Put the TS on a Non-Internet connected No AV and No firewall PC....

Finally got a "force" update to run following the FAQ instructions......

Almost worked.........got 2 errors

1) NAS Updater

    The script occurs error :0x7F00

    Script : Md0_Format

2) Failed firmware update : 0xFFFFFFFF

    Firmware update is canceled.

Further but still a nice looking brick :0
