Title: LS-WX2.0TL/R1 - 6 RED FLASHES WITH NO DISKS INSTALLED, 7 WITH DISKS INSTALLED
Post by: BigO on November 08, 2014, 12:36:33 PM
LS-WX2.0TL/R1
Firmware 1.68  - Cant really tell at this point as I cant access the unit at all.

Im trying to access the drive using both windows and mac computers using the NAVI-X software and respected firmware loaders with no success.

So im having the issue listed in the title:

6 RED FLASHES WITH NO DISKS INSTALLED, 7 WITH DISKS INSTALLED

I was able to get the unt to boot and load the 1.68 firmware (i believe that was the firmware) about a week ago but was having issues with the disks themselves.  I formatted them on another PC to simple FAT32 and since then, i have been unable to get the unit to boot with the drives or with no drives installed.

The drives are blank so i dont care about formatting them again if need be but I want to get the iunti back up and running for my brother in law if possbile.

I wanted to try to TFTP boot process but none of the download links to the TFTP boot loaders seem to be working correctly so im  not really sure what to try next.

Can someone please help me out because im not really sure what else to try to get this thing back up and running.

So i was able to find the needed TFTP files here:

http://www.nas-hilfe.de/downloadbereich/category/8-tftp-boot-recovery

It took me some time to get the whole process going due to IP and subnets changing back and forth but after about 20 attempts, i got the firmware to actually begin moving over and forced the second TFTP boot and transfer as listed here:

http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=27407&p=163681#p163681

After the unit did the amber flashes, it has rebooted and now is still doing the 7 flashes with the disks installed.

First formatting the disk was a bad idea. The OS sits in the drives. You need to go and reformat the to anything. Just to clear anything that might of been written on them and then delete the partitions. There cannot be any partitions on the disk.

Before we continue.. Please for the love of Buffalo do not use wireless for anything below this.

Sounds like you did the tftp right but if you want to do it again follow below if not skip it.

Next you need to use this TFTP.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/jvmmuor9oo1d1ne/TFTP_Boot_Recovery_LS-WXL_1.40.sfx.exe

Get the latest firmware. its 1.69

Then  follow this guide but DONT download there tftp. http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=10185.0

If you have tried everything there to attempt to get your unit in to EM Mode. Try another PC. Sometimes the pc is the whole issue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So E06 means corrupted firmware and E07 means no disk are detected. Try one disk with TFTP and see if you can get it in EM mode. Make sure that there are no partitions on the disk because it could cause it not to work properly. Also Once it in em mode update the unit. And all should be good if everything went well.

Sorry for the delayed response, i was able to get the unit into EM mode and successfully flashed the device but only with one drive in at a time.  So not the untit will boot with one drive but not with both drives.  With both drives i get the E07 (7 flashes)

So I just remember that e07 might mean disk failure with this unit and what i said before. Sorry codes change here and there. Any who.. you  there in each drive? can get the unit to boot up with both drives???? if so wipe one of the drives and have the other drive installed in the unit. Next, sometimes this works sometimes it doesnt, worth a shot. take the drive you wiped and insert the drive in bay 2 while the unit is still on. Then go to your units interface and click check disk, i believe it is called that. The system should find the disk. Build a raid array and see how that goes.

If you dont want to waste time and try to figure out what idks is bad. This is the best time to buy some hdds. 2 deals below. You will have to do the same thing you did before to those drives.

I can get the unit to boot with EITHER disk installed, just not both at the same time which leads me to believe that the drives are not bad.

I have some drives here that I can use but will i need to go through the entire TFTP procedure again?

When i booted with each single drive, i went in and formatted the drive to single drive mode.  Then i tried to add the second drive but after 2-3 mins, it didn't seem like the drive was coming up should i have waited longer?

After you hit check disk it should appear. The unit doesnt actually have hotswap capability but i have done it. If anything do the same to the other drive. The unit should causes issues for booting up if a slot is bad. It would not work or report a false bad drive. There is something not right somewhere. The second drive is a clean drive right?
