Title: LS421DE becomes unresponsive after a day or so of no use
Post by: miller6386 on September 30, 2014, 09:08:32 AM
Hello, Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. We have a LS421DE that we use as a network shared drive at work. The problem is if no one accesses data on it for a day or so it becomes unresponsive and does not show up on the network. I have to unplug it and plug it back in in order to read or access it... Is there a simple setting I am missing somewhere? We have backups that are scheduled every few days but if no one accesses it then the back ups aren't able to complete.

Thanks!

I dont not recommend disconnecting the power like that. In the back move the switch to off and wait 5mins just in case and move it to on. If that doesnt work move it to off and wait 5mins and then you can disconnect the power, reconnect it and move it to on. I would check to see if you have any sleep options on. Here is the link to the manual that will explain the sleep function.

A corrupted firmware could cause the unit to freeze.. are there any lights on the unit before you power it off? have you tired to ping the device and see if you get a response? have you tired accessing the web interface when this happens?

I would also check your firmware version and see what the current firmware is. If there is a newer one i would do a restore on the unit and see if that helps if not then update the unit

This unit is STILL randomly going to sleep or becoming unavailable on the network... EVERYTHING else on the network responds just fine but the NAS is unaccessable... I need this resolved as we use this for work. If we can't get it resolved then I will have to replace it with something else. There are NO options to set when it sleeps. Sometimes it is fine for a week other times it happens 2 or 3 times a day. Turning the power off does NOT resolve this. We have to unplug the unit in order for it to become responsive again. Now today I am getting 5 slow flashes then 4 fast ones in red on the power indicator. We need this resolved please. Thanks

-_- so IF you tired everything I said then I wouldn't know what more you can try. I don't own this unit so i have limited ideas. If anything call buffalo support since you need it fixed asap. Anything asap should be a phone call not a forum post. Especially if its for a business. If anything they will RMA you a new unit and issue resolved.  You error code is I54, Backup job failed. This info is in the Manual.

My LS-421D has same symptom with both firmware 1.80 & 1.81!

It is a shame that v1.81 has addressed the USB drive recognition issue, but still not yet fix this "freeze" issue...!
