so my link station live crashed, and i was able to recover the data using ufs explorer.  at first, it went into em mode and said to contact support, which i did.  then it just stopped showing up in NASNavigator as well.  after a week of no reply from buffalo tech support, i recovered the data myself using ufs explorer (worth the $50) after trying knoppix, which did not see the drive.  then i though i would reinstall the firmware, but to my surprise after hooking it back up, it worked.  not sure if ufs explorer actually repaired the problem while recovering, but it seems that way. 
anyway for a 2T drive, i think the ls-x2.0T is vastly underpowered.  i really liked the server functions but i think they over worked the hardware on this device.  after the no response technical support, i will be switching to a synology.  i'm looking at the 214play, which is quite a bit more, but even compared to the buffalo products in the same range, the synology is more powerful, and seems to be a lot easier to get around.

do what you got to do i say, the ufs explorer didnt repair, you leaving if off probably did. hard to explain as software is the most painful stuff to come up with when you need a logical answer. if you want a nas so bad why dont you just build one? for the price of a synology you can easier by a old pc with a amd quad core or intel duo core, buy a cheap raid card.. and bam.. then install freenas. the cheap raid card will most liky be more robust then synology's solution. though if you want to use only 2 disk you wont need a raid card. just the old pc. save your self alot of money o and you will need a 1gb usb for os install. olny negative to this is no support or rmas. you are the support and you will pay to replace.  $350 is kinda pricy for there specs and no disk.... not saying buffalo isnt pricy for some of there units but they are on a more afford base then them at least.
