Title: Windows 7 many problems with Buffalo HD-GDU3
Post by: buffaloj on September 28, 2014, 12:30:22 PM
I have had nothing but problems since I got my HD-GDU3.  I hope someone can help solve it because my backup situation is precarious at best.  I have posted previously about my Buffalo external not being recognized.  I can't do a backup.  It would work intermittently if I unplugged, rebooted, a variety of things (with no apparent pattern that I could discover).   However, I was able to at least copy and paste files to the drive (once I got the computer to recognize it).  That is very tedious, time-consuming work, but at least it could be done.

Now I can't even copy and paste.  It gives an error message (screen shot attached) that says it isn't there anymore.  I went to copy all my files (using vice-versa pro) last night.  Came in this morning, and some had copied, but it got to a point where they stopped, and an error message said the file wasn't accessible.  So I went to copy and paste manually today, and I can't do that.  If I open the folders, though, the files are all accessible.  I just can't copy anything to it now.

I finally reformatted the drive, thinking that would help.  I did a full scan, both with and without recovery of bad sectors.  I have changed USB ports (although all the ports work with other devices).  I am not having any trouble with my other hard drives, internal or external.

This drive is critical.  I bought it specifically to back up all my digital photography.  Most of my photography is not backed up now.  The other drives lack the space, and this one won't work.  I've tried to stagger/distribute it over several drives, but I still don't have space.  I urgently need to do this before the main photography drive crashes.  I appreciate any assistance.  Thank you :)

Nothing is working.  When I disconnected & reconnected the drive, the files were accessible.  No longer.

Earlier, I was able to get it to copy some files.  Once I saw the files copying, I left to let it copy them all (estimated time was 10 minutes) and came back in -- same error message as attached above.

Disconnected, reconnected, files accessible, but I can't write a thing to it.  I rebooted, still nothing.

Now I can't even open the files.  Message:  K:\Pictures is not accessible.  The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Device manager - working properly (attached) but definitely is not  :(

I'm at my wit's end.

I have rebooted and reconnected, and now I'm getting a brand new message.  I can't use the disk until it is reformatted.  Fortunately, I have no information on it that is irreplaceable because I've been having so many problems with it.  But I can't proceed with the format.  Another message pops up that says, "Windows was unable to complete the format."

I will check the buffalo software to see if that fixes it.  Thank you :)

Since Windows doesn't recognize the drive, the software is useless.

I have gotten the information to return the disk, defective since purchased but now having to pay shipping to them and likely get a refurbished unit.  Guess whoever wrote the reviews that convinced me to buy a Buffalo were luckier than I was  :(  I know these things happen, but this has put a very bad taste in my mouth.  Hopefully the replacement they send me will be Scope  ;)

Drive could be locked up. I would guide you on how to use diskpart to check the properties of the disk to see what the systhetem shows and if the drive is set to read only or locked but you got a rma and.... it would take forever over messaging LOL
