Title: Not being recognized by Windows XP
Post by: Dracul on September 27, 2014, 06:48:16 PM
Hello,

I've been using the 3tb Drivestation on my PC for awhile now and no problem. I've been running Ubuntu on my PC, and recently dual booted it with XP. It still works on Ubuntu, but for XP, it doesn't. XP doesn't even recognize it at all.

How do I get it to work with XP?

Thank you.

When you say it's not recognized, can you be more specific? Does it show in disk management? Since you've been using it in Ubuntu, how is it formatted (what file system is it using)?

Its not showing up, anywhere, at all. No matter which port I put it into, nothing happens, and the ports work because I tried them with other devices.

The external was installed and set up originally on Windows Vista. I don't see it being any other format than standard Windows.

Does it still work if you boot to Ubuntu?

But it doesn't show in device manager or disk management in Windows? It can only be a Windows driver issue not correctly recognizing it.

Forget everything else I said, I just noticed that this is a 3TB unit which means it was set up as a GPT disk rather than MBR. Unless you're running the x64 version of Windows XP it can't see it.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. Not too bad then, at least there isn't anything actually broken with anything.

Thank you!
