Lost 1 HDD, apparently the one with the boot image on it. Cant access anything now.

I've been reading up on the steps on how to restore my TS-XE8.0TL/R5 using TFTP. I setup solarwinds TFTP server on 192.168.11.1 and the TS-XE8.0TL/R5 is able to connect and GET file.

However, that's where I'm running into a problem. It seems like the Firmware available for download doesn't match what the TeraStation is looking for. Check out the log

I ran into it not being able to find the correct firmware. And this is the firmware from the support page for the TS-XE8.0TL/R5  tsx161.zip

So I ended up renaming the .IMG files to .BUFFALO to see if that would make a difference.
(i also renamed uImage.IMG to uImage-88f6281.buffalo, because it was asking for that)
Unfortunately that did not work. Now when it connects to TFTP and does the get, it fails, and the Terastation reboots to start the process over again, no progress made.



This an issue of wrong firmware? or something else going on here?

TFTP is a success, but I get stuck on step 3 and TS-XEL does not go to EM Mode.

Any ideas?

Probably the wrong TFTP file, whats the actual problem with the TS?

After about 2 1/2 years of use of the TS-XEL, it reported error on Drive 0. Drive 0 was making windup and clicking noises. I replaced drive 0 with same model drive. When rebooting the unit, it goes to E06 lost boot image.

I attempted to proceed with E06 lost boot procedures. I've used the official firmware, the firmware in the sticky, and firmware from the site i posted. TFTP is a success, but it never goes to EM mode.

I'm having the exact same problem.  Did you ever get it figured out?

Wow, this was a major pain to figure out.  All the guides are way all over the place. I am not going to rewrite any of the guides but I will give a little more info that I could not find anywhere.

You are going to need the following:

This is the link to the latest available when the thread was created.  If its dead, go to the buffalo site and grab the latest.

This site has the commonly used keys for extracting the necessary bits from the firmware update you download from buffalo.  I haver included the passwords you need for ver 1.66 here.  If you have a different version, try the keys listed on the link at the very bottom

These are the keys to extract the necessary uImage-88f6281.buffalo and related files out of the password protected ones.  This only works for 1.66.
