I currently have 2 1TB drives in RAID1. Disk 2 has errors so I would like to replace both drives with 2TB ones. The product documentation says that if you replace with a larger drive the additional space will not be available.

Can I replace Disk 2 with the new larger one, rebuild the RAID, then replace Disk 1, rebuild the RAID and then have access to all 2TBs of storage?

Ehh, if this is a 421DE, simply copy all the data OFF the unit, put both new disk's in, then follow the quick start guide again for the initial setup, then once setup, destroy the evil RAID 0 default and place the GLORIOUS RAID 1 in its stead, then copy the files back, and you win!

Thats the easy way... the much more annoying way, is to power the unit down, remove drive 2, insert 1 new drive, then when powered on, format drive 2 instead of building it into the array, create the folders over again (different names sadly) choosing drive 2 as the folder location, copy files over from drive 1 folders to drive 2 folders, then when all data is also on drive 2, shut unit down, place new disk 2 in bay 1, then place the other new disk in the newly free'd bay 2. The unit should now boot off that disk 2 you copied the files to and the new disk 2 should be unformatted, at this point, go to the array section, and when you click on Array 1 or where you click on Array 1 there should be like an EDP option or something like that, it allows you to chose a "source" disk for the RAID 1, simply select drive 1 where the copied data lies, then sit back and let it sync... years er i mean 48hrs~ later you should have all your data on the new RAID 1 with all the new space!

And if you ask for my help in the hard way, I will vehemently ignore the request! Its all up there... just a bit incoherent! Follow the yellow brick road! I promise it leads home!
