I recently purchased a Linkstation Pro Duo 1 TB NAS which I set up on my Mac desktop. It is Model LS-WTGL/R1-V3 running firmware version 3.07.
I have it configured in Raid 1 and when I set it up, I set up 2 folders, one for music, which I access through itunes, and one for videos. For the first couple of days it was set up, I was able to "see" the shared folders on my other PC laptops in the house sharing the same network through "My Network Places" and I could drag files to the folders on the NAS or watch videos using my laptop accessing the file sitting on the NAS, all of which I was able to "see" using "My Network Places" on my PC laptop.
For some reason, (and I don't recall making any changes), I can no longer see the NAS from either of my laptops. If I open itunes on the laptop, the shared folder does appear in itunes and I can play music on my PC laptop using the shared itunes library sitting on the NAS.
On the MAC, when I am in Finder, I can see the "linkstation" show up under "shared" and I can access the folders etc, but for some reason, I can no longer "see" either the music or the video folder (I don't see the NAS at all) in My Network Places on either of my PC laptops.
Any suggestions? One of the main reasons I got the NAS was so I could use it as a central repository for videos, music etc all of which I would access from other computers running on the same network. While I can access the music through itunes, that seems to be it.
TIA (thanx in advance)
Instead of accessing it by network name (which is done through My Network Places), try the following:
To map a share:
Pls make sure you have allowed the different PCs' firewall settings. I've tried the syncing videos and watching them thru the LS Pro Duo on six PCs and 3 Macs and apparently 2 PCs and 2 Macs are able to see the videos.
Tried upgrading firmware and re-mapping drives still come to no solutions.
After playing around then I realised that it was the firewall that was cauing the problem.
Another factor to consider is on onboard firewall or NAT in your router. I turned that off and it was a major boost for us as all videos and music were able to be sync successfully. Of course turning off NAT on your router is something which I don't really advise.
