Title: Linkstation FirmWare Update - Everything Deletes?
Post by: Rickmasta on April 24, 2009, 11:03:52 PM

Well, I decided to update my firmware for a linkstation LS-CH, and I searched to check if the hard drive would be formatted to have the update, and found no info, the updater says nothing about it.

Well, my question is, does updating the firmware delete all items off of the hard drive?

I have a problem for either answer; yes or no

If yes, then something's wrong because everything indicates that my hard drive is 43% full.

If no, then something's still wrong, because I cannot find my files, not in share or anywhere.

I do actually want my files.

The firmware updater should not remove anything from the data partition. Do all the shared folders you had previously show up in the Shared Folders section of the web interface? You can also try accessing the device via FTP.

I solved the problem. I didn't understand the problem 100%.

But, from what I can tell you, a while back. I reformmated my computer, and I didn't see a shares folder, so I made one of my own called "shares" no capital S. Now when it was formated, there was a "Shares" folder there. and nothing in it, but I saw that the hard drive was like 41% full. So I just uhh uh changed the "shares" folder name to "Shares". All fixed. :D

atlis, do you see the shared folders from before you updated the firmware? If not, recreate them with the exact same name as before. This will re-link the directories to the shared folders.

UFS Explorer can read XFS, and it is the only Windows software that I know of that works for XFS. You can also access XFS from a Linux machine.
