Title: HD-H250LAN in Emergency Mode
Post by: josmar on April 16, 2014, 12:03:19 PM
I seem to have some problem with my HD-H250LAN running in Emergency Mode only. I purchased it 2nd hand and the previous owner already did not get along with it. Im my network it got an IP via DHCP and NASNavigator2 saw it in Emergency Mode. I instantly put in a 80 GB HDD that I am sure is OK to rule out Emergency Mode is due to a faulty HDD.

If connected to a stand-alone XP notebook (firewall switched off) via cross-over cable, I can ping it at 192.168.11.150 and NASNavigator2 sees it under this very address but reports Emergency Mode and recommends to re-flash the firmware. Web-server is NOT responding under this address!

Now that's where it gets weird: There are severals firmware versions packaged for download.

hd-hglan_161 package contains HD-HGLAN FWUpdate.exe 2.0.9.0 which does not find the HD-H250LAN!

HD-HLAN_FW147 package contains HD-HGLAN FWUpdate.exe 2.0.1.0 which does neither!

HD-HLAN_FW205 package contains HD-HGLAN FWUpdate.exe 1.0.0.0 does and reports current firmware to be "6". But he flashing process fails after some seconds with no additional harm done to the HD-H250LAN as far as I can tell.

What am I doing wrong other than messing around with a year-old discontinued device?

Thanks!

Post a picture of the back of it so i can tell you the correct firmware to use.

Bare in mind you need to have a static IP set on the PC NIC, to something like 192.168.11.100 and any anti virus and firewall software disabled.

... static IP was set on the NIC to be in the same subnet with NAS. Otherwise ping would not have worked, would it?

Hi,

I am having a similar issue with my HD-H250LAN.  My usint is stuck in Emergency mode and all attempts at a firmware upgrade have failed.

I tried the firmware that Davo posted but for me it does not see my Linkstation.  Other firmware upgrades do see it and Navagtor also sees it.

I am directly connected to the unit with my ip set to the same network that the Linkstation is.

My version is the one with the network cable switch on the back.

Is there another firmware version I should be using?

Thanks

Davo thanks for link to the firmware but that also failed.  I sent an email to Buffalo support and he gave me the standard response for things to do, direct connect, turn off firewall which I was already doing but still no luck.

Any other ideas?  The drive was working fine till I attempted a firmware update and it failed.

Thanks again.

What error do you get when you try and install the firmware from the link I sent you?

Here is some additional details on firmware update.

Linkstation was working fine I wanted to upgrade the firmware.
On the first attempt of the upgrade it failed and the Linkstation went into EM mode.
I have been using a WIndows XP pc with both the security (security essentials) and firewall (Windows Firewall) turned off.
I am connection directly to the PC using a standard straight through cable.
I am setting the cable switch on the back of the Linkstation to crossover mode.
Navstation sees the Linkstation.
The PC has a static IP address in the same network as the Linkstation.
When I try to update firmware the process begins and the application reports Saving Settings.
The disk and Link light flash.
I then noticed that the PC shows a bubble alert the the network cable is disconnected.
The disk full light begins to flash.
Then I get the message that firmware update has failed.

Thanks.
