Title: I12 Degrade mode, TS2.0TGL/R5
Post by: kiltrout on April 21, 2009, 03:29:23 PM

My TS2.0TGL/R5 has been humming along for around a year w/ 4x500GB Hitachi Deskstar drives in a Raid 5 array.

A week ago it stopped working with an E14 "cannot mount raid array" error. I re-created the raid array, and it passes the Disk Check and all appears fine... except I get the yellow light and it's running in "I12 Degrade mode".

From what I understand, this means one of the drives has a problem.... but which drive?!? There doesn't appear to be any indication anywhere of a problem with any specific drive in the array.  I have a brand new spare, but have no idea which one to swap out (or if that's even really the problem).

And there seems to be a woeful lack of information/instructions on how to identify and correct such problems...

Thx in advance for any help....

what firmware are you running?  Have you tried updating it?

Force update the firmware on the unit with the Rebuild Partition Table option checked in the Debug menu. This will wipe the data, so make sure it's backed up first. Create a new RAID array, and the device should report what drive is the problem. If it doesn't, you may need to go through an RMA if you're within warranty.
