Title: LS-XL 3.0TB not showing up anymore in network - blue light keeps flasing
Post by: Nanoprobe on March 26, 2014, 08:39:58 AM

Having a LS-X3.0TL with firmware 1.65 and Nas Navigator version 2.69:
The Linkstation worked fine until this morning.
The LS-XL goes to sleep at night(by way of the builtin timer feature) and wakes up the following morning.
But now, it doesn't show up on the network anymore, the blue light just keeps on flashing. Nas Navigator doesn't see the NAS either.
Powered down 3 times, but doesn't work.
Can't reset either because that's done through the web interface....

The drive itself is spinning, the router does see a connection. The IP-adres of the NAS is NOT pingable.

How to reset without hopefully losing data? I do have backup but would be very sorry to lose the last updates still on the NAS...contains 30000 photos..
If at all neccessary, can the hard drive be removed and installed in say, a USB casing to access the drive?

Help would be very very welcome...

Just to let everyone know, using TFTP boot procedure voids your guarantee. At least that's what happended to me when contacting support.

I'm having the same problem. Did you manage to figure out a solution?

Thanks,
Adair

I've just had this too.

Load NasNavigator 2.0 and see if it appears there.  Double click the blue exclamation mark and see what the error is.  It most likely will tell you to upgrade the firmware, however after doing so will still boot up in emergency mode.  Mine eventually said I11 too many bad sectors!

All is not lost though, the drive is partitioned and it seems the partition with the Nas software on it fails.  However the partition with all your personal files on it should still be good as is the case with mine.

Your going to need a new Nas though or another sizeable HD and a PC.  Take out the HDD from the NAS and put it in a spare SATA socket in your PC.  Then get hold of a copy of UFS explorer this will allow you to view all the partitions on the NAS drive and copy off your files to your new drive. If you get a permission issue on the destination drive when copying, create a new folder within UFS explorer on your new NAS first and copy everything to that directory.

I've just gone for a Buffalo 421E Raid 1 two 3TB drive set-up ( bought via Flubit ), so should one of the hard drives fail you've got another copy on the other HDD and can then just replace the failed hard drive and save all this hassle.

Good luck!
