Hi,
A month ago I purchased a Buffalo TS3400D4.0T NAS. All day today I kept getting pop up messages on my laptop that there was new firmware.
So, to assuage this annoyance (even after I clicked "don't tell me again", I installed the new firmware this evening.
Well, it seemed to be happily installing when I received two repeated errors about a restart failing to be verified. Now the NAS drive is not showing up in NAS Navigator2 nor in my Windows browser. The Chrome browser window within which I was running the firmware upgrade just went gray without fully developed buttons. When I refreshed the page Chrome couldn't find it.
The NAS has a green light steadily blinking above the power button. The screen on the NAS says, "Hard disk HD 4 Power ON". And, that's it.
So, what do I do? My business has deadlines and my employee and I need to access files on the drive first thing in the morning! I appreciate your thoughts on how to set this right. Help!
I don't understand why the firmware install wouldn't wouldn't work.
I am running Windows 7 on a PC.
Thanks,
Derek Rubinoff, AIA
I unplugged it and rebooted the NAS a couple of times. Now the LED screen is bright red with no text. The error light is solid red. The power light is solid green. The LAN1 light is randomly flashing.
INITIALIZE POWER SCHEME
powers all 4 disks
"NO INNIT FILE AT HD1...HD2...HD3...HD4...HD5"
...and then beeping like a French police car, followed by red screen with no text.
Won't turn off. Having to unplug it and reboot but receive same error.
Wish I didn't have deadlines all week with my business and employee dependent on what's on this thing!
Now it's suddenly come up in Emergency Mode. At least my laptop can see the thing....
Status:
I41: Press the function button to start recovery. (2014/03/18 14:17:58)
Emergency mode. Update the firmware or contact technical support. (2014/03/18 01:18:25)
I try to re-install firmware, this time downloaded from Buffalo's website.
Bubble comes up:
TSUpdater
"Could not confirm whether the partition exists. Cannot update the firmware. Firmware updating is aborted."
"NAND BOOT"
???
Hey,
Did you ever make any progress on this one? I'm having the same error as you.

No, I started all over again with a replacement drive Buffalo sent me. All data lost (and wasn't going to pay $1500 to recover it from a third-party service). This was after Buffalo admitted their firmware update install method was the cause of this....
