Title: Error Copying Files or Folders!
Post by: thuanta on April 19, 2009, 01:42:11 AM

I just bought the Combo4 Drivestation. I've only used 100 gigs of the 1 tb. I tried adding more files to the hardrive today and I keep getting an error saying "Error Copying Files or Folders. There is not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free up disk space and then try again. To Free space on this drive by deleting old or uncessesary files, click on disk cleanup."

Which I don't understand because I havent used a lot of the disk space. Help?

Per the forum guidelines could you please post the model and firmware (if possible) that you have?

I am having the exact same problem. I am trying to move an 8gb file from my western digital hard drive (NTFS) to my external hard drive Buffalo HD-HS1.0TU2/F-US(FAT32). I've only used about 100 gigs of my 1 tb external. I have been moving files at 2 gigs to the hard drive but when I attempt to move the 8 gig file I recieve an error message "error copying files or folders." Same as thuanta. I'm not sure what firmware im using. Im using windows XP SP2 on an AMD platform.

Sometimes it will appear that the file format is NTFS but if your trying to move files that large and its not working you might have to reformat using a NTFS directory use the windows application.  If it shows up as a drive then right click on it and go to the properties and make sure that its on NTFS and reformat it.

To be completely honest that didn't make any sense. Could you reword it in greater detail? For instance, what windows application would I use to reformat? I did right click on the external hard drive and went to properties, however there is no way to reformat from there. I dont mean to be rude but your post made almost zero sense to me.

Right mouse button click and select format from the drop down menu.  Change file system to NTFS.

**** obviously this will erase all data stored on your drive ****

1. All the files that you moved were they larger than 4gigs before you got the error message?

2.4Gb is the limit of the biggest file one can create in a Fat32 partition which itself can be as big as 2TB.

3. If you right click and you will see the option for format it will have a drop down box make sure its on NTFS and reformat but you will lose all data.

Thank you all VERY much! I am in the process of moving files out of my external so I can reformat it. JoshC, yes all files were larger than 4gigs when I recieved the error message and the Fat32 file limit makes perfect sense. Thanks again for all the help. I'll keep you guys updated.

I think it is due to long path, check its properties and disable if it is hidden, you can check in process explorer that if any other program or user is using it,and after all that if problem persists then use a tool such as a small tool available at http://pathtoodeep.com

So I am having this issue with my cloud stor pro.  The only thing is that I am accessing with it from my iMac from home, but I continue to get this error message from my work computer using windows xp sp3.  I must say I had not had this error message until I updated my pogo plug software on my work computer.  I was not sure if this had anything to do with it.  I can not find a way to change the format of the drive on my Mac because it doesn't  show up in disk utility to change it.  I would appericate any suggestions.  I have updated the firmware to the lastest and my pogoplug software is 3.1.0.

Windows Explorer/FAR would fail to copy/delete/rename any pathname longer than 256 characters( PATH TOO LONG error ). Our program LONG PATH Tool can handle pathnames of any length, up to the internal Windows limit of 32,000 characters.

Long Path Tool is very useful if you are having problems in deleting, unlocking, copying and even renaming files that are considered filename too long by your system. Yes, these problems can occur even while using the latest Windows Explorer or FAR in managing your files.  This tool can help you simplify files names that are categorized as filename too long by your system.
