Title: problem (multiple?) with Terastation3 RAID5
Post by: gwing82 on December 17, 2013, 12:47:39 PM
Hi All,
I have a Terastation3 TS-RIXL configured as a RAID5, and am having a couple of problems:
- I had 3 volumes that don't appear anymore.
- I can't enable LVM.  (Yes, I did disable the iSCSI service and try this.)

What precipitated this is, I 'bumped' the unit and disk4 reported an error.
It's rebuilding the array now, but there are no volumes visible.

I'm not sure what's going on here.

sounds like you might have 2 bad disk. does disk 1, 2 and 3 show up in [System]-[Storage]? if so does array 1 show up? you bumping the unit could of moved the needle on the disk and scratched the disk which can cause this. I would try and power down and reseat all the drives if everything showed up that i asked.  But wait til the raid array is done being rebuild.  Not sure why its doing this as you didnt add a new disk. maybe disk 4 got scratched and the unit then saw it as a new drive... not 100% sure but just wait til its done rebuilding. You dont want to stop it and have a chance of losing all data.

How do you "bump" a rackmounted device?!

Hi,
Sorry I didn't respond to those that offered help.  I've been really busy, plus on vacation.
It looks like the only option I have is 'format disk'.  Rats.
I have to say I'm not impressed.  I didn't get any information that my remaining 3 disks as RAID5 had any problem whatsoever.
Like everyone says, I would really like to have recovered the data.
