Title: LS421 vs LS-WVL for media streaming
Post by: jak12310 on December 06, 2013, 10:22:50 PM
Hi all,

I am in the middle of deciding which one to buy: LS421 or LS-WVL diskless NAS.

My idea is to be able to stream media to my LG+WD TV Live SMP and Samsung smart tv F5500.  Currently I have 2TB wd connected to WD TV live and obviously I cannot access the media from my samsung.  I have TP Link N750 router that can  be used for media server.  My samsung TV can play the media fine but I am unable to fast forward the movie.  This is when I start thinking about purchasing NAS.

- I read somewhere in this from that the LS421 already have new firmware that includes Twonky ver 7.  Is this solving the movie fast forward problem?
- How about the LS-WVL fast forward capability?
- Can both NAS be installed with WD Red hard drive?
- Can I plug in my wd external hard drive (USB) to these NAS and use it as temporary storage until I purchase internal hard drive?
- Finally if both NAS have the fast forward feature, which one should I get?  From I understand LS421 is newer but using lower processor speed of 1.2 ghz vs LS-WVL 1.6 ?

Thanks in advance!

They both can use WD Red HDD, you can plug your external drive in the back of the Nas but you cant use it in that manner. You need to buy a HDD and setup the LinkStation first.

Then you would transfer all your data to the LinkStation. Once done you can connect the external usb drive on the LinkStation but you need to format it before you can use it. This is why you need a HDD in the LinkStation first and then you need to transfer all your data.

The LS421 is more powerful the the LSWVL since the LS421 uses a dual core 1.2Ghz. The LSWVL uses a single core 1.6Ghz. i have been able to fast forward and rewind with both.
